Surfing the right waves of Feelings

Truly great things comes to those who clean! yahoo! As I was looking through the recipe books and trying to fix them I saw a paper with a very good quotation,

"Feelings are much like waves, we can't stop them from coming
but we can choose which one to surf."   -Jonatan Martensson

I find myself agreeing to the quotation and thinking through how this has been true in my very own life. There have been many waves of feelings that swept into my life since I was a child until I face each day. These feelings have come from the daily interactions I had with different kinds of people; from having encountered new friends, from having experienced kindness or rudeness from people; from the guys I've met; from encountering a natural or man-made disaster;  from reading books and watching movies; from messages God has spoken through different people; or from the travels I have made. All of these have become like waves of feelings that truly we cannot stop from coming. There are feelings I'm glad I've surfed and there are those I regret I did.

We were created to have feelings. Feelings just come and go because we are created that way--to have feelings.

The good thing about feelings is that "...we can choose which one to surf." Whatever feelings comes and give us a wave from our normal life we have the capacity to prevent ourselves from going with the wave. To illustrate, fine, I'll give you a chance. Let's go to your favorite topic-- "Feelings toward a guy or girl you met". After all this is the most dangerous and common feelings we get that we must know what to do with.

Let me ask you a question. How many guy or girls have you met that you feel you like since you were given that idea of "liking someone"? REALLY? It can't be just one...Naah! I myself can count at least 5. Wait, don't get me wrong here. I'm not talking about the boyfriend or girlfriends or MUs you've had I am just talking about someone you "like" just like facebook. Haha. The point is you will face different people in the different places and these situation may face you at least twice if not five times. COME ON! Let's be honest. Now, how many times have you let yourself surf those feelings and end up hurting or if not hurting at least realizing the person is not for you.

My friend, the good news is, "If there's a will there's a way"--If you want to control your feelings you can control it. If you do not want to control it then would you want to be someone who has surfed too many feelings that are not supposed to be surfed and end up drowning or being eaten by the shark of brokenness. Then when the time comes for you to express your feelings to the RIGHT person God has prepared for you you've got nothing left. Of course God will restore you once you repent. I have experienced His restoration from surfing the wrong waves when my feelings must be dedicated to serving Him. But if you already knew that YOU SHOULD NOT waste your feelings to what is not for you then why bother wasting your time surfing the wrong wave? Why not give your feelings to God is worth all of it NOW? I say, that's the best wave to surf--feelings for God and then one day He will give you the RIGHT person in His RIGHT timing.

As The Fray sings, "Sometimes the hardest thing and the right thing are the same"--All At Once

Yes it's hard that's why we need God to help us have SELF-CONTROL. :) I choose to be at His side because He knows every right and safe wave to surf. Do you?

Dream vs. Fantasy

We are dreamers because it is free to dream. Why not dream? Through the many dreams from different people came about the telephone, the computer, the iphone, the disneyland, and so on. None of the successes of today would have happened if no one had dreamed in the past.

We have dreamed of things when we were young and it resulted to what we have achieved today.

And yet here comes another word which is fantasy that many of us often mistake for a dream. Fantasy is defined in the dictionary as
the forming of mental images, especially wondrous or strange fancies; imaginative conceptualizing (dictionary.com).
In simple terms it is similar in a dream that it has not happened yet but it is unrealistic and is only based on imagination.
Influenced by the media and literature we have one way or another given in to fantasy. Anne of Green Gables says, "...where there's lots of room for imagination." Why, if not for imagination writers wouldn't have written very good stories and produced very good movies. So maybe the next question would be why not fantasize?
The verse from 1 Corinthians 10:23 always reminds me,
"Everything is permissible for me"--but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible for me"--but I will not be mastered by anything." -NIV

So maybe then you should ask yourself "what are the benefits of a dream?" Then, go to the question, "What are the benefits of fantasy?" Go ahead and name them. I have said the results in the earlier paragraphs. Now let's go to the second section of the verse, "Everything is permissible for me--but I will not be mastered by anything." Take note, "I WILL NOT BE MASTERED BY ANYTHING".

Go ahead dream but make sure you act out your  beneficial dream..Go ahead fantasize if you want to but make sure it doesn't become something that occupies too much of your time that you no longer have time to live the day that is to live REALITY.
Hey, there are great things ahead of you such as living out your dream. Be careful of your fantasies that you might not be succeeding in living your dream because you are ENCHANTED by your fantasies. Anyway, mostly your fantasies are centered on romance or adventures found in books or movies made outside the real world.

I say it's better to face the REAL adventures than just lie down and think...and think...and think...then die.
